Newly engaged couples spend many long hours planning for what will be one of the biggest and most important days of their life – their wedding day. They want everything to run like clockwork, whether it’s a small family gathering in a restaurant or ‘room for hire,’ to a full-blown ceremony catering for over one hundred guests, or more. They must decide on either a church ceremony or a civil ceremony in a venue licenced to allow legal marriages to take place.

Once the date is set, couples can go about researching every area of the wedding industry. Over the years, couples have come to rely on wedding industry suppliers for expert and reliable advice, and here at James Wedding Cars, I like to be able to offer as much help as possible. The bride and groom want all the information they can gather when we first meet so that they can take away every detail of what happens on their special day. There are so many questions to ask and answer, and it’s our responsibility to reassure them that, on their big day, they will be reassured that everything will be magical.

The most important tip I can give is, START PLANNING EARLY. Lots of couples tell me their wedding date isn’t for another 18 months or more, so they have plenty of time. Their date seems a long way away, but all the time, other couples are booking early and taking the prime dates for my wedding cars. I’m taking bookings for 2028/2029.

I would advise you to try and attend wedding fayres, where you can see the cars and even sit in them so that you can imagine what it will be like on your big day. (it also gives you the opportunity to speak with other suppliers)

Think of the numbers in the bridal party, both groomsmen and bridesmaids, as this will determine which car is best suited to your wedding – the 3-seater Beauford Tourer, or the 7-seater Imperial Viscount, or even both cars.

Ask lots of questions. Even something that seems trivial and mundane, is really important to you, and I answer every question with the same amount of importance.

Once you have your wedding car booked, you can cross it off your list and move on to the next supplier, but don’t completely forget about it, as you might think of something you feel you should have asked when making the booking, so don’t be afraid to contact me, no matter how irrelevant you think the question might be, I’m always here to help.

People ask me lots of questions, both during the first meeting and later when the car is booked. Things like:

Are dogs allowed in the car?

The answer is ‘yes, providing your pet isn’t too large – lapdogs are fine.

Can we travel with the roof down?

I usually advise against this, unless it is a short journey, as you and your bridal party have spent time and money on a hairdresser and driving any distance could affect your perfect appearance. I always put the roof down when entering the venue, weather permitting, and drive slowly to the entrance.

Are we allowed to smoke in the car?

No, this isn’t possible as it always leaves a cigarette smell.

If asked, I will offer to stop, if it’s safe to do so, and let the smoker get out of the car to smoke.

Can we take a detour to visit the grave of a loved one or pay a short visit to an elderly relative in a care home?

I am completely happy to do this as I know how important it is to you to include this on your wedding day.

Are small children allowed in the car?

Yes, this is possible, but I always ask their age at the time of the wedding, as babies and infants would require special seating and I suggest that, purely from a safety standpoint they would be better travelling in a modern car with the required child seat fixings.
