All about the underwear
Blush Lingerie, established in 1999, is a small, independent boutique serving the lingerie needs of women in Cheshire.
Proprietor, Pamela Slater, founded Blush after being asked repeatedly, by customers at the store where she worked, for something ‘a little bit more’ and this led to the creation, not only of a bricks and mortar store, but also the very successful on line store.
“We wanted to give the same quality of service online that our customers receive in the store,” Jennifer Banks, Pam’s business partner, tells us, “of course, the ideal situation is for a bride to visit us for a personal consultation, but for the brides who can’t get to us, we’re always happy to offer advice on-line, whether it’s about sizing, or a query about whether a particular type of bra or basque would be suitable under their style of dress.”
The move to a larger shop meant a larger bridal area, and Blush have introduced Simone Perele and Charnos into the collection to sit alongside established favourites such as Aubade, Panache and Marie Jo, with sizes starting at an ‘A’ cup and moving right through to a ‘K’ cup. And if you think that it’s just bra, brief and suspender sets, think again! Basques, bodies and bustiers are also available, meaning that whatever style of dress you have, you’re bound to find something to fit perfectly underneath.
You don’t need to make an appointment to call in and try the different styles, but if you would like an out-of-hours evening fitting, these can be easily arranged.
“Shopping should be an enjoyable experience,” says Pam, “but all too often we’re rushing around and trying to get everything done and bought while we’re on a lunch break – it takes the pleasure out of it. This is an opportunity, especially for brides, to come in with their mum and their bridesmaids or just with friends, and spend an evening relaxing and trying on things that they might not have previously considered.” Evenings are by appointment only and with a minimum of 7 days notice, but they are a very popular option.
Getting it right
We see lots of brides during the year; some come to us twelve months in advance while others leave it until the very last moment to buy their underwear. It’s important to speak to your dressmaker about the style of the dress you’re having and which types of underwear will be suitable underneath it – for example, you may really want a basque, but if your dress is boned it just won’t sit right.
If you follow this simple guide you can’t go wrong:
- Find your dress
- Have your initial fitting – try to get front and back photos of the dress
- As soon as you’ve found and ordered your dress, come to us for an initial look at the styles available. Bring the pictures of your dress and be sure to make a note of any particularly low cut areas or open sides.
- Buy your lingerie – keep it to one side ready for your fitting, complete with labels and tags.
- Try on your dress with your lingerie – if it doesn’t quite fit with the dress, we still have time to find well-fitting alternatives.
And there it is! A stress free experience in buying bridal lingerie.
