Emma and Loz Bendle
Loz and I first met back in 2007 at McDonalds where he was working as an assistant manager and I was a shift running manager whilst at University; little did I know that he was the one!
We spent a lot of time together as Loz always used to put me and my twin sister on the same shifts as him although I’m not sure whether it was the fact we were hard workers or if he fancied me and was doing it to get to know me. We had an instant connection but it wasn’t until a few months later we became an official couple.
One of the first things that attracted me to Loz was his easy going personality – and charm of course, but it was definitely not his fashion style which consisted entirely of tracksuits! He also got on really well with my brothers, twin sister and parents which was important to me as I’m really close to my family.
On our first official date Loz really splashed out, taking me for a lovely meal in Liverpool to Wetherspoons, luckily his taste has changed and we do still love a date night although it usually consists of a cocktail diet.
After a couple of years together, we couldn’t wait to move in together and purchased our very own home in Upton, Wirral in 2009 which is now home to us both and our three cats Olly, Oscar and Otto. They rule the roost we’re just here to pay the mortgage – it wouldn’t be home without them!
While Loz and I were over in America celebrating my parents wedding vow renewals, Loz had planned to propose, and little did I know that on the 7th January 2014, my life was about to change. Loz knelt down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We had stopped in Disneyland for a week before heading to Clearwater on the coast. The weather was a little miserable and we had left the hotel to grab a hot chocolate from Dunkin Donuts, walking back along the boardwalk. Loz had pointed to a dolphin in the bay as I turned around; he was down on one knee with the most stunning ring! It was that perfect that I knew he hadn’t selected it on his own and must have had support from my mum and twin sister when choosing. I was over the moon and rushed back to the hotel to share the moment with my family.
Much to my surprise, this was the third attempt of the holiday, as the original plan was to propose on New Years Eve at midnight in front of the Disney Princess Castle and the second being at Magic Kingdom but Loz hadn’t brought the ring. Regardless of this, the location and timing and the utter surprise of his actual proposal was amazing, something I will never forget.
Soon after this, we started making plans for our big day and although I’d always known what I wanted, being the last in my group of friends to get married helped confirm what style of wedding day we were going to have.
It’s true what they say, planning a wedding takes over your life and once we had set the date for 26th May 2017, the wheels were set in motion. Late nights passed but ultimately names of suppliers I really loved started to amass in my wedding planner. It was three years to go but I knew I wanted to secure their services, looking at all their pictures and videos on social media got us really excited.
When it came to finding the perfect venue, we visited The Mere Golf Resort and Spa with my parents and instantly fell in love with the grounds, stunning lake views and a beautiful green golf course. Loz doesn’t normally agree with me but on this occasion how could he disagree! It would be the perfect setting for our big day and we couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else.
The next most important decision I had to make was finding the dream wedding dress! I had to have something unique as I like to be different and being pale skinned I knew an ivory coloured dress just wasn’t for me. As a keen shopper, I began my quest to find the perfect princess dress and after searching the majority of wedding dress shops across the North West, I finally found the dream one which was shipped over from Australia to Bridal Path in Liverpool two months before my big day.
The minute I saw my pink Maggie Sottero wedding dress, I completely fell in love. As I’d be wearing pink, I thought it would be perfect to have my three bridesmaids – my twin sister Amy, my cousin Bethan, best friend Abby and our two flower girls, nieces Lottie and Isabelle in ivory. All five of our girls looked so beautiful in their Love Frocks dresses by Natalie Fitz and allowed us to keep the traditional colours as part of the wedding party.
On the evening before the big day, Loz and a group of our close family and friends enjoyed a round of golf on the stunning golf course. The weather couldn’t have been better and as the lads tee’d off I could sense how excited they all were, but also how much it meant to both of us that they had made the effort to be there. Funnily enough Loz actually came first but I’m not sure if the lads let him win though – while us girls kept it classy sipping cocktails in the beautiful sunshine at Piccolino’s in Knutsford.
The morning of the big day was very special, I was surrounded by my best friends and family and knowing Loz was only a couple of doors away made me even more excited to see him as I walked up the aisle. We celebrated that morning with a champagne breakfast whilst being made to look and feel incredible by my two make-up artists, Rebecca Devin and Thomas Jack McHugh, and also my two hairdressers Aaron Jones and Amy Thexton.
We had discussed having the ceremony outside as I’d always dreamt of this, and as the weather was absolutely gorgeous, we were able to get married overlooking the Mere Lake which was truly incredible and the Mere team had no problem in making this dream happen for us.
The moment I first saw Loz waiting for me up the aisle was one of the most magical moments I’ve ever had, and as I walked towards him we had ‘tale as old as time’ being performed by Leos Strings Quartet – it was a dream come true. After we said ‘I Do’, we headed back inside to see our wedding reception décor leaving our guests to mingle outside to enjoy a reception drink, scoop of ice cream or two from Fellicis Ice Cream with our personalised wafers and listening to talented Leos Strings Quartet.
Our décor by Red Floral and LightTech was absolutely stunning! My parents, along with Loz and I went to see the room before our guests entered and as my mum described it, it was one of the most breath-taking wedding décor she’d ever seen and was delighted to see all of our ideas come to life. We had thrown ideas at Matt but his skill and imagination is on another scale! From our wedding cake hanging on a swing next to the top table, unbelievable floral table centrepieces, beautiful fabrics on the tables all finished off with room swags, stunning candelabra’s, room uplighters and backdrops – it was just magical.
On the day, we had lots of little personal touches displayed to share our personality and life together, such as our wedding favours which were melted chocolates with the name of three charities close to our hearts (Stroke Association, British Heart Foundation and Alzheimers Society), our personalised M&Ms all the way from New York, a personalised custom built card house shipped from America and a clay model of Loz and I in our wedding outfits with our three cats.
The wedding reception was fantastic, and we couldn’t wait for the evening do to really celebrate!
Our evening guests started to arrive at 7pm to see Loz and I cut our swinging wedding cake – beautiful designed and constructed by Lou at Elegant Cakes Designs. When choosing the entertainment, I wanted something to bring the party to life – and had been inspired by Lovely Laura the saxophonist who we were lucky enough to see live in Ocean Beach Ibiza on my hen party and booked the incredible Dax on Sax, Kami C Percussion and Chris Jaegerossa through Six15 Events that were fantastic and blew the roof off!
The evening was completed with a Selfie mirror supplied by ProBooths. This proved a real hit with all our guests, they received a picture each time they used it but the added benefit is that Loz and I were gifted a photo album with a copy of the pictures and a special message from each of the guests, it was a wonderful surprise and something we will cherish as a memory of the day.
Following the best day of our lives, we booked three weeks travelling the beautiful Indonesian island of Bali, starting with a mountain retreat in Ubud, moving onto natural beauty of Tembok and ending with sandy beaches of Sanur in which we had the most incredible honeymoon.
It was the happiest day of our lives and was made truly magical with help from our family and suppliers. All those years of planning are now a memory of the past and one that we will never forget but we have a magical video created by Ste Park at Reminisce – movies which we cannot stop watching over and over again, and beautiful photographs from Jonny Draper Photography to help us relive our special day that we will remember forever.
