Planning a wedding in less than 6 months is it a good idea?

smallIn the last couple of years wedding professionals have noticed a change in the wedding enquiries they are dealing with, there now seems to be a real trend for couples to spend a lot less time planning their wedding!

Previously couples would typically have allowed anything from 18 months to 2 years to plan their big day, now many want to get it done in 6 months or less?

So is this a good idea? Why the big rush?

Well it seems that as the uncertainty over the economy has continued a lot of couples have wanted to be sure their jobs are secure before they have felt confident enough to start planning their wedding, once they do they then want to get it done quickly, maybe before anything changes?

And whilst it can feel romantic and impulsive to say, “let’s get married, as soon as possible!” there are a few down sides to this.

Firstly venue availability, whilst some couples plan to get married in a matter of months there are couples out there who do plan ahead and have already booked their venue. I can already see there are going to be many disappointed couples for 2014 that leave it just too late to book. If you want a wedding on a Saturday between May and September, it would be a good idea to start looking at venues and get your preferred one booked as soon as possible, otherwise you may not get the date or the venue you would like.

Registrar’s availability: – 2014 is looking like it is going to be a very busy year for weddings, and if you are planning a civil ceremony the registrar’s can only marry a certain number of couples per day, another reason to book your venue.

Wedding Dresses: – Did you know it takes, on average, 8 months to get a wedding dress made? You can, of course, buy samples and off the peg designs, but if you are ordering a dress from a bridal boutique expect to be quoted something along this time scale. Plus don’t forget it is not just the time it takes for the dress to arrive; you need to allow time for fittings and alterations. Previously some of the factories making the dresses could rush orders through, but as so many brides are ordering their dresses late, the majority have stopped offering this service as they simply cannot deliver. So save yourself a big headache and leave plenty of time for the all-important dress!
