The Wedding of Gary & Lyndsay Burnett

They say that things happen for a reason and after meeting Gary on holiday in Spain, I really believe this to be the case.  I was on holiday with my mum and a friend, while Gary was with his friends.  It was a holiday romance that lasted and over time, we grew close.

On Christmas day in 2011, I thought I had opened all my presents, but then Gary handed me one last envelope which contained a series of hand drawn pictures that told me that we were going to New York on the 28th February 2012.

As soon as we landed in New York, Gary was very keen to go to the Empire State Building, so off we went. The queue to get to the top lasted for over an hour but once we were up there it was worth it, especially when Gary discreetly proposed to me whilst we were overlooking the beautiful sights of New York.  The proposal was completely unexpected and I never saw it coming.  Following the proposal we went to a lovely roof top cocktail bar, close to where we had just got engaged- it was all very romantic.

Once we were home, we discussed locations for the wedding and was seriously considering going abroad before eventually deciding that we would do it close to Liverpool, ensuring that all our nearest and dearest would be able to attend.

We found the West Tower, but unfortunately couldn’t get married in September 2013 as we had originally planned, due to the venue being fully booked.  However, they did have the Sunday before May Day bank holiday available the 5th May

2013 and because we loved the venue so much and felt it ticked all the right boxes, we decided to bring the date forward. However we were now into the middle of December, so it only gave us four full months to plan the day.

The first thing we booked following the venue was the photography package, and this was by Nicole Photography. We met Paula and Bob at their house and they were very warm and welcoming which made us feel at ease. We wanted to capture every moment of the day and their portfolio speaks for itself. On our wedding day they produced some fantastic pictures and the both helped the day run smoothly.

Our beautiful invitations were handmade by The Paper Doll, as were the finishing touches needed for the day, such as the table plan, napkin rings and lots of other little items which had a big impact on the day.

The choice of florist was easy- Heather Feather of Flower Fashion Florist was recommended to me by a friend who had used her at her own wedding.  Straight away it was clear that Heather and I were on the same wave length and I knew that she would be able to successfully deliver the vision I had for my wedding.  Heather also created a beautiful arch for me and Gary to stand under whilst getting married. We also hired chiavari chairs, and they were beautifully dressed with covers by Shelley Nelson at The Chair Cover Company.

The night before the wedding I stayed with my bridesmaids and cousins in Liverpool City Centre and we went for a nice meal before heading back to get some much needed sleep before the big day.

On the morning of the wedding I had my hair done by Lisa Rhead of Barbara Daley, my make-up by Wai Sim, and my bridesmaids had Stephanie Groome. My dress was a bespoke design by Philip Armstrong and it was the dress of my dreams. Philip and Tony were amazing from start to finish, even dressing me at the West Tower on the day of the wedding.

The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day, and I thanked my lucky stars as up until the day the weather had been typical British weather- wet and cold.  Paula the photographer was busy taking photos of me and my party before the wedding while Bob, Paula’s husband, was with Gary and his party.

Throughout the day, Dave from B2B Productions recorded the celebrations on camera.  He stayed around all day and night, and was very discreet with what he was doing, blending into the background but getting the all-important footage.

Just before 2pm, my dad came to collect me from the bridal suite and soon enough, it was time to go.  As I walked down the stairs, I could hear an instrumental version of the song Halo by Beyonce being played in the room where the ceremony would take place. I was so happy and excited as I walked up the aisle to stand next to Gary.

Following the ceremony, and after a quick chat with the guests as they left the room, we went outside for some photos.  Our guests then enjoyed some delicious canapés and the ladies drank Cosmopolitan cocktails while the men had ice cold beers.

When we went inside for the wedding breakfast, we realised just how beautiful our suppliers had made the room- it looked absolutely amazing and just how we wanted it.  The food was perfect and the speeches that followed had the whole room suitably entertained.

Once the reception started, we danced the night away on the sparkly, lighted dance floor and it was packed all night.
Another recommendation by friends was the Toni James Band, and after watching a few of her video clips on YouTube and her own website, it was quickly agreed that we would use Toni’s band for the evening entertainment.

However, due to Toni being heavily pregnant, she could not sing at the wedding but instead provided an equally brilliant replacement lead singer in Alex Dee, who was joined on the night by Africa. They kept the dance floor full along with the seven-piece band.

Alex, being a talented individual who could play the saxophone and guitar, also sang during the ceremony and the wedding breakfast, and was accompanied by a piano player. My niece also surprised me by singing a song with Alex, which was a really proud moment for me.

The cake was a six tier masterpiece by Lizzies Larder and included a chocolate tier, a vanilla tier and a lemon tier. It tasted as good as it looked, we had this after the the hog roast in the evening.

After four months of planning, we were both ready to head off to the sun and relax without the worry of a wedding to plan.  We headed off to Crete where we were able to start our new life as Mr and Mrs Burnett.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in our special day. Not only were our friends and families fantastic, but our suppliers were great and really helped us achieve our vision for the wedding.  It was perfect and the memories will be with us forever.
