The Chocolatiers’ Wedding

“Although 2009 was quite a difficult year (the recession had affected Richard’s building business), it also gave us the opportunity to expand on our chocolate fountain business: Lush Creations.”

Richard and I first met on 24th May 2008 on a busy day at the Trafford Centre. We had found each other over the internet.  After nearly a month we decided to meet. I was so excited because I had adored him from the start. We spent the whole day together.  We went to see a film, had a lovely meal and chatted over drinks in the evening. We met again the next weekend, but it wasn’t until the fourth date when we had our first romantic kiss.  From then on, we were inseparable.

Although 2009 was quite a difficult year (the recession had affected Richard’s building business), it also gave us the opportunity to expand on our chocolate fountain business: Lush Creations.  This is where our passion really lies. As a graphic designer, I was able to do the advertising, stationery, leaflets and posters. I was also involved with setting up at venues and serving guests. On Valentine’s Day 2009, Richard took me for a romantic meal at my favourite restaurant.  It was here where he got down on both knees and asked me to marry him. I had a drunk quite a lot of wine, so it wasn’t until the next morning when I saw the beautiful ring sparkling on my dressing table, that it sunk in.  I was so excited!

We set the date for 18th June 2010, which gave us plenty of time to plan and save.  We decided to have a traditional wedding in the church I’d grown up with and is very close to my heart – St Mary’s in Lymm, Cheshire.  I used to sing in the choir there and during that time, I had seen many weddings. Now, it was my turn to walk down the red carpet. We chose one of our favourite restaurants, Home, for our reception meal.  We love the ambience, the food and the service we receive every single time.  It also has a great courtyard area. We wanted a separate venue for our evening party; we chose the perfectly located Lymm Hotel.  We had been very impressed with them at my brother’s wedding two years ago.

We decided to do all the room dressing and stationary ourselves because through Lush, we are equipped for it.  However, we needed some helping hands from our team, also known as ‘the night before team’, to help set up for the big day.  I designed the stationery myself, using purple to match the bridesmaids’ dresses, and a three diamond cluster theme match our wedding rings.

Finally the day was upon us.  We had our hair done by Lymm Hair Studio and make-up by Enhance. My bridesmaids, Sally and Hilary, are my best friends from school.  They wore beautiful purple dresses by Alice James. Sally’s daughter, Devon and my niece, Emily, wore white dresses from Debenhams.  They had flower girl baskets filled with dried rose petals. Richard had dried every rose he had ever given to me, and had saved the petals in a vase, which were used on our wedding day. Our photographer (Lee Richardson) came to the house and took photos of us getting ready.  We also had photos taken with the beautiful Beauford Belle vintage car, before setting off in style to arrive at the church. My dress was from Brides of Bestman by Mori Lee. It was only the second dress I had tried on, but it won me over with the intricate embroidery, beading and traditional style.  The also had a two metre long train which my bridesmaids were glad to help me with on the day. I knew Richard would love it.  As he turned around to see me by the altar, I could see his lips move to the shape of wow! I had a wonderful bouquet of delicate roses with diamantés; our flowers were by Heaven Sent in Warrington. The ceremony, conducted by our friend Tom was beautiful.  We smiled the whole way through the service like Cheshire cats.  Another of my old school friends, Debbie, is a professional guitar teacher who played for us during the signing of the registers.

It rained during the morning, but it had brightened up during the day.  We had photos taken outside the church and towards Lymm Dam, which was a fantastic and romantic setting. We surprised our guests with a big, red, vintage double-decker bus which took them to the reception.  We arrived slightly later in an open-top wedding car.  We drove through the gates into the courtyard, where we are greeted by our guests. The reception room looked superb.  Every detail had been considered, from place settings to carefully engraved gifts.  The contemporary chocolate summer trifle went down a treat! Richard had a few surprise embarrassments when it came to the best man’s speech, and I had to hold back the tears when Richard’s father welcomed me into the family.

When we arrived at the evening venue, the chocolate was flowing and the Lush aroma filled the air. Our guests loved our Lush Creations chocolate fountain and wonderful treats, especially the fresh strawberries, cream-filled profiteroles and the Cornwall dairy cream fudge. We cut the cake after our first dance to Gilbert O’Sullivan’s, Clair.  After the exchanging our vows, it was the second most romantic part of the day. Our cake was made by Cheshire cakes.  It was a three-tier cake, decorated with ruffles and diamantés, with a porcelain couple at the top. The DJ played our special ‘hit list’, which consisted of old and new songs that had personal meaning to us and our friends.  It was a fantastic night. Lymm Hotel did an excellent job.

At noon the next day, we left for the airport.  Richard had planned and organised our honeymoon and kept it as a surprise until the day we were due to go. I was thrilled when I found out we were going to Maspalomas in Gran Canaria.  I had never experienced ten days in five star luxury, and I am sure I could all over again!
